Typically, it takes 8-12 weeks for the complete report to be finalized.

4. Who can claim a decedent at the Coroner's Office?

The immediate next of kin, including an executor.

5. How long are bodies kept at the Coroner's Office?

The vast majority of decedents are available for release in less than 48 hours. Unidentified or unclaimed bodies are kept for a minimum of 4 months.

6. What is the process for obtaining DNA samples for paternity testing?

Laboratory samples suitable for DNA testing are kept forever. A Court order is required for release to a designated laboratory.

7. What other procedures for in-person identification at the Coroner's Office?

8. Where is the decedent's personal property held?
