Do Public Defenders work for the District Attorney?
No. They are completely separate entities with distinctly different roles. Public Defenders represent people who are accused of committing crime and protect individual clients’ rights and interests in court. District Attorneys enforce criminal laws and represent the state’s interests in criminal cases.
