Montgomery County Announces Tamra Williams as Director of Health and Human Services

NORRISTOWN, PA – The Montgomery County Commissioners have announced the appointment of Dr. Tamra Williams as Director of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) after conducting a national search. Dr. Williams will lead a staff of over 500 employees as head of the County’s largest department.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Williams to the County and I look forward to working with her to oversee programs and services helping some of our most vulnerable residents,” said Kenneth E. Lawrence, Jr., Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “Her practical training and experience have already been a valuable asset to our senior leadership team.”

Dr. Williams comes to Montgomery County after serving as the Chief Clinical Officer for Community Behavioral Health (CBH), a behavioral health managed care organization where she oversaw key initiatives related to population health and health equity, integrated and complex care, a Member Advisory Committee, and the Evidence-based Practice & Innovation Center.

As the Director of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Williams oversees County offices of public health; children & youth; drug & alcohol; the County’s Early Learning Resource Center; Veterans affairs; senior services; managed care solutions; housing & community development; mental health, developmental disabilities, and early intervention; community connections; and strategy management.

Dr. Williams is a trained clinical psychologist and a results-driven public service and behavioral healthcare executive with over 15 years leadership experience in managed care, county government, and non-profit settings. She has dedicated her career to public service and making access to quality health and wellness services a priority so that individuals can flourish. With a doctoral degree in Psychology, her special expertise includes managed care operations and large-scale program design and implementation requiring cross agency/departmental collaboration.

Dr. Williams obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida with a minor in public health policy & management and completed her pre-doctoral training at Yale University's School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, and post-doctoral training in the Division of Law & Psychiatry. She looks forward to serving the residents of Montgomery County and helping others to live safe, healthy, and connected lives.
