NORRISTOWN, PA – National Adoption Day is a collective effort to raise awareness of children waiting to be adopted from foster care in the United States. More than 123,000 children in the United States foster care system are waiting to be adopted and more than 2,500 children in Pennsylvania are currently awaiting a permanent home.

“Helping families to form through adoption and assuring that children have a safe and secure home is one of the most important and meaningful things that we do as a Court,” said The Honorable Judge Lois Murphy with the Montgomery County Orphans’ Court. “We are proud to celebrate National Adoption Day and to recognize the many Montgomery County families who have adopted children in the last year or two, and provided that loving, safe and secure home to a child.”

To bring attention to the many children residing in foster care who need a permanent family and to honor those families who have already adopted a foster child, Montgomery County Orphans’ Court and the Office of Children and Youth (OCY) are co-sponsoring a special event to mark National Adoption Day.

This Saturday, November 19, 2022, families that finalized adoptions throughout 2021 and 2022 will gather to have their pictures taken with the Orphans’ Court Judges and enjoy refreshments and activities. The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown with a brief ceremony starting at 11 a.m.

This event will not only honor the adoptive families but also bring community awareness to foster care, adoption, and the importance of permanency in the life of a child. It will specifically celebrate the 299 families who have been forged through adoption in Montgomery County in 2021 and 2022, including 89 children receiving services through the Office of Children and Youth.

Adoption in Montgomery County
The Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth provides adoption services to find permanent homes for children who are served by the child welfare system. Our foster and adopt program seeks to recruit, educate, and support individuals and couples as dually certified foster and adoptive resources for children.

Foster Care in Montgomery County
The Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth needs foster parents to provide temporary care to children and to work with birth parents. When foster care is needed, it is OCY’s goal to keep a child in their same community to provide stability and to facilitate family reunification. The goal of foster care is to provide for the child's safety and wellbeing while efforts are made to reunite the child with their family.
