Montco Invites Public to Webinar on County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update April 25 and 26

2021 Hazard Mitigation Masthead

NORRISTOWN, PA – Montgomery County is offering a second round of public webinars as part of the update process for its hazard mitigation plan (HMP). The public is invited to participate via Zoom on either Monday, April 25, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. or Tuesday, April 26, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The webinar is being offered on two dates to provide for greater participation; the same agenda will be covered at both meetings. Registration is required to receive the event link.

The webinar will provide the results of a risk assessment matrix, completed by local emergency response personnel. The matrix measures and compares the impact and likelihood of each of the 29 defined hazards that affect Montgomery County communities. Webinar participants will have an opportunity to submit comments. Public input on threats and hazards in local communities will result in a more comprehensive plan.

The goal of the hazard mitigation plan is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards by identifying and implementing cost-effective mitigation actions. FEMA requires the plan to be updated every five years. The Montgomery County Planning Commission (MCPC) and the Montgomery County Emergency Operations Center are working on the update, which is scheduled to be completed in 2023. Updating and adopting the HMP is essential as federal and state agencies require a current plan in order for communities in Montgomery County to be eligible for certain types of pre- and post-disaster mitigation funding.
Register for one of the two available dates to participate in the update of this important county plan. Registrants will receive the Zoom webinar link the day before the event.
It is important to note this webinar is not a part of the county’s Hurricane Ida response. Click here for information on assistance and relief efforts pertaining to Hurricane Ida.
