NORRISTOWN, PA – Montgomery County
Parks, Trails, and Historic Sites announced today that
Peter Wentz Farmstead will offer special Juneteenth tours on Saturday, June 19 to share the story of Jack, an enslaved person who sought and escaped to freedom from the farm in the 18th century. Jack was captured after his first attempt to escape but eventually gained freedom on his second try. What happened to Jack following the escape is unknown.
Tours last approximately 45 minutes and will be offered every hour starting at 10 a.m. with the last tour at 3 p.m. Space is limited and reservations are required. To book a tour, please call (610) 584-5104. Tours are free however there is a suggested donation of $2 for each attendee.
The Peter Wentz Farmstead is officially recognized by the National Parks Service (NPS) as a National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program historic site. The Farmstead is included on an NPS
map of its national collection of 682 historical sites.
The Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program coordinates preservation and education efforts across the U.S. and integrates local historical places, museums, and interpretive programs associated with the Underground Railroad into a mosaic of community, regional and national stories. The NPS has expanded the definition of Underground Railroad to include sites, programs, and locations which illuminate the lives and experiences of enslaved people in America who sought liberation on their own terms.

Peter Wentz Farmstead in Worcester Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania is a historic site that offers public indoor, outdoor and virtual historical and nature programs year round. Visitors can also walk the grounds and a trail along the Zacharias Creek, visit with farm animals, or tour the historic house by appointment.
