Upcoming Changes to the Notary Commission and Bonding Process

The changes will streamline the current paper- and mail-based processes for notaries and the Recorder of Deeds office. Please bear with our office as we transition to this new process.

Under the new process, notary commissions will no longer be mailed to our office. Commissions will be printed from the Department of State portal when notaries come into our office to take their oath and record their notary paperwork.

Additionally, the change will affect how notaries receive their appointment letter and bond. Instead of notaries receiving their appointment letter and blank bond by mail, beginning on March 23, notary appointees will now receive these items by e-mail. This will enable notaries to utilize the full 45 days to obtain a bond and come into the Recorder of Deeds office to complete the commissioning process.

Please call our office at 610-278-3289 if you have any questions.
