Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg to Notarize
Emergency Absentee Ballot Applications Free of Charge

Norristown – Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg today announced that she would waive fees for notarizing emergency absentee ballot applications during regular office hours (8:30 AM to 4:15 PM) for voters who need them.

“Voting is both a fundamental right and a civic duty,” Sorg said. “Citizens should be able to exercise their right to vote in spite of unexpected events. We want to do everything we can to make it easier for folks to engage in this critical process.”

This announcement comes on the heels of Montgomery County Voter Services extending their hours this past weekend to accommodate voters who needed to vote by absentee ballot. For persons who have applied for a regular absentee ballot, the completed ballot must be received at County Voter Services by Friday, November 2.

However, if a qualified emergency has arisen (the regular absentee ballot application deadline has passed) voters may still be eligible to vote by emergency absentee ballot and even last-minute emergency absentee ballot.  Possible emergencies include illness or necessary absence from the voting municipality. Voters need to obtain an emergency ballot application from County Voter Services (or online) before having it notarized. For more information about emergency absentee ballot applications visit VotesPA.com.

“This is one small way we can give the voters of Montgomery County peace of mind,” Sorg said. “I am happy to be able to serve the citizens of Montgomery County in this way.”
