Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg to Increase Veteran Outreach Efforts

NORRISTOWN – Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg today announced two new initiatives to support veterans and their families in Montgomery County and the surrounding area.

“When I was elected by the people of Montgomery County, I knew I wanted to make the office of the Recorder of Deeds more accessible to, and involved in, the community,” Sorg said. “Hearing the stories of veterans every day encouraged my desire to expand our office’s outreach. I want to do more to give back those who served their country.”
Sorg’s office currently manages a Veterans’ Discount Identification Card that offers discounts to veterans who record their military discharge paperwork. Sorg and her staff can frequently be seen throughout Montgomery County taking their operation on the road.

“My goal is to serve as many veterans as possible,” Sorg said. “The best way to do that is to take our service to our constituents.”

Sorg is happy with the work her office does to serve veterans, but she wants to do more. Sorg hears similar sentiments from members of the public, who often call her office seeking volunteer opportunities.

To that end, Sorg recently decided to host a toiletry drive to benefit Veterans Multi-Service Center. She will collect items, in her office at One Montgomery Plaza, Suite 301 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday, or any of her upcoming Veterans’ Mobile Discount Identification events.

“It is a small gesture, but VMC does so much to help veterans and their families,” Sorg says. “It is my honor to support them in the good work they do.”
Sorg says that anyone in Montgomery County who would like to donate toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, lotions, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shaving cream and soap is welcome to bring these items to her office or a mobile event.

In addition to the toiletry drive, Sorg has teamed up with Montgomery County Veterans’ Affairs Office and the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety to perform a census of veterans’ graves in Montgomery County cemeteries on several dates throughout the summer.

“Montgomery County veterans have fought in every U.S. conflict since the Revolutionary War,” Sean Halbom, Director of Montgomery County Veterans Affairs, said. “Today, more than 60,000 flags are placed in Montgomery County every Memorial Day by dedicated volunteers and veterans. We are thrilled to receive the additional volunteer support necessary to improve our records so that every veteran’s grave will be accounted for.”

All Montgomery County residents are welcome to stop by a Veterans’ Mobile Identification Event to gather more information about these volunteer opportunities, thank a veteran, donate items, and/or get more information about the Recorder of Deeds office opportunities. Veterans are eligible to receive a discount card with their DD214 paperwork and a valid Drivers’ License. Upcoming events are listed below.
