Becoming a Foster / Resource Parent

Requirements for Being a resource Parent/Foster Home

Becoming a foster/resource family is easier than you think. Families are urgently needed for a diverse population of children including sibling groups, teens, and children with challenging behaviors. 

Basic requirements:

  • Be willing to participate in pre-service resource parent training
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Have a home or apartment that meets basic standards as set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS)
  • Provide a positive physical and emotional environment for children

Can be:

  • Married or single
  • Working parents or stay-at-home parents

Pre-service Foster / Resource Parent Training

Resource parents are urgently needed for sibling groups, teens, and minority children. In order to become approved as a resource parent, you must attend one (1) orientation class and all pre-service resource parent training classes in a session.
