Potassium Iodide (KI) Distribution
As part of Montgomery County’s continuing emergency preparedness effort, we continue to make available free potassium iodide tablets (KI) to Montgomery County residents who live, work and/or attend schools within a 10-mile radius of the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant.
Potassium iodide, or KI, can help protect the thyroid gland against harmful radioactive iodine when taken as directed during radiological emergencies. Individuals should only take KI when told to do so by state health officials or the governor.
Adults and children will receive a two-day supply of KI. Directions detailing when and how to take the tablets, as well as instructions for proper storage, will be provided with the KI tablets. Individuals can pick up KI tablets for other families or those who are unable to pick them up on their own.
Residents and Businesses
Montgomery County Residents and Businesses within a 10-mile radius of the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant, can receive a supply of KI tablets, by completing and submitting the online KI Form.
You will be contacted when your KI request is filled and ready for pick-up. Anyone can pick up KI tablets for neighbors or family members, but a separate request form must be filled out with their information. You can also call 610-970-5040 and a receptionist will assist you.
AFTER YOU ARE CONTACTED, your KI tablets can be picked up at the Pottstown Health Center, Monday through Friday from 9am-3pm.

Know What to Do in Case of a Nuclear Accident
Radioactive iodine, one of the contaminants that could be released in a nuclear accident or similar event, can increase the risk of thyroid cancer. Potassium iodide (KI) is a drug that, when taken in an appropriate and timely dosage, can block exposure to radioactive iodine.
As part of Montgomery County’s continuing emergency preparedness efforts, the Montgomery County Health Department is again making potassium iodide tablets available to residents who live or work within a 10-mile radius of the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant.
