Notary Information
When you are ready to be sworn in as a notary public, bring your bond, power of attorney and photo ID to the Recorder of Deeds Office. You do not need an appointment and are welcome any time between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will be sworn in and your bond will be recorded. The fee for this is $38.50. We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. All checks must be made payable to the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds.
After leaving our office, you must visit the Montgomery County Prothonotary in the Courthouse to have your signature registered. The fee is $3.50. The Prothonotary's Office accepts cash only.

Our office has partnered with the Montgomery County Prothonotary to swear in Montgomery County notaries both via video conferencing. Please be prepared with your executed bond, power of attorney, and photo ID. The fee will be $42. NOTE: This one charge will pay the Recorder of Deeds fee of $38.50 and the Prothonotary fee of $3.50. To be sworn in by video conferencing there will be a $25 convenience fee added. Sign up for your time slot here.
To sign up for a time slot, notaries need to have an executed bond, power of attorney and their driver’s license. After signing up you will receive an automatically generated confirmation of your time. A day before your online video conference you will receive an invitation to join the meeting at your reserved time.
Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts
On October 26, 2017, the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts took effect. All notaries should be aware of important changes in the law. Specific information about these changes can be found on the Pennsylvania Department of State Website: www.dos.pa.gov/notaries. Changes include an education requirement for ALL notaries; examination by a registered Pennsylvania Department of State examination vendor; changes to the notary stamp; and many other changes. Notaries are encouraged to read more about these important changes at www.dos.pa.gov/notaries.

- Notary Change of Address Form - The Recorder of Deeds no longer processes Notary Changes of Address. Notaries do need to record a change of address with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of State.
- Notary Change of Name Form - The Recorder of Deeds office no longer processes Notary Change of Name. Notaries do need to record a change of name with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of State. Notaries may continue to use the name they were commissioned with until the expiration of their term. If you choose this option you must still notify the Pennsylvania Department of State.
