Are appointments required?
OPH highly encourages people to make an appointment to receive a flu vaccine. People registering and making an appointment will be prioritized. People without appointments will be registered on-site and will be accommodated while supplies last.

I made two appointments, one for my COVID-19 booster and one for my flu shot but the times are not the same. What should I do?

None of the dates work me for me, where else can I go to get a flu shot?
Please visit www.montcopa.org/flu and scroll to the section that says “Locations That Offer Flu Shots” for additional locations in Montgomery County and the surrounding area offering flu vaccine.
Can pregnant women get the influenza vaccine?
Yes. In fact, this is one of three vaccines that pregnant women are urged to get during pregnancy; the other two are COVID-19 and Tdap. Because pregnant women are more likely to experience complications and hospitalization as a result of infection with influenza, it is important for them to be immunized. In addition, studies have shown that babies of women who were immunized with influenza vaccine during pregnancy are less likely to be infected with influenza during the first six months of life, before they are old enough to be vaccinated.
Will the High Dose Flu vaccine be available at OPH’s Walk-up clinics for seniors?
OPH plans to have this vaccine available to our seniors at the walk-up flu clinics. This vaccine is indicated for those aged 65 and older, although this is dependent upon vaccine availability.
Can I get a flu shot if I’m allergic to eggs?
Yes. The recommendations for influenza vaccination for people with an egg allergy have been modified. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) states that persons who report having had reactions to egg, may receive any licensed and recommended age-appropriate influenza vaccine.
OPH will follow these guidelines concerning egg allergy at their flu clinics:
Persons with a history of egg allergy who have experienced only hives after exposure to egg may receive any licensed and recommended age-appropriate influenza vaccine.
- Persons who are aged 18 years or older and state they have a severe allergic reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis) to eggs will receive Flublok, which is considered to be an egg-free flu vaccine.
- Persons who are under 18 years of age and state they have a severe allergic reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis) to egg should not attend an OPH flu clinic and are recommended to receive their flu shot with their allergist or health care provider. People who have a history of severe egg allergy (those who have had any symptoms other than hives after exposure to egg) should be vaccinated in a medical setting, supervised by a health care provider who is able to recognize and manage severe allergic reactions.
Will OPH be doing any Drive-Thru Flu Clinics this year?
Yes. A drive-thru flu clinic will be offered on Saturday, October 8th at Montgomery County Community College’s Blue Bell campus by appointment only.
