See it. Send it. Stop it.

Have you ever witnessed a crime or suspicious activity in your neighborhood? Were you unsure of how to report it to law enforcement? Are you interested in a safe, anonymous way to keep your community safe?

In August 2018, the Department of Public Safety partnered with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office to launch the MontcoCrimeTips program. MontcoCrimeTips allows citizens like you to anonymously submit information to law enforcement through the STOPit smartphone app, available for free download on the App Store and Google Play, or STOPitWeb, accessible via internet browser on any laptop or desktop computer.

When you submit a tip through STOPit, a notification is sent to our 9-1-1 Communications Center. If the tip describes an active emergency, your local police department will be dispatched to the scene. If it concerns a non-emergent or ongoing situation, the District Attorney’s Detective Bureau will be advised for further investigation.

Some examples of previous STOPit reports in Montgomery County include:

  • Witnessed crime
  • Domestic violence
  • Drug activity
  • Threats of violence
  • Dangerous behavior
  • Vandalism
  • Suspicious activity
  • Weapons

After you submit a report, the STOPit platform allows 9-1-1 telecommunicators and/or law enforcement officers to follow up with you with two-way anonymous messaging through the mobile app or STOPitWeb.

This provides officials a way to ask you questions about your report and ensure that they have the information that they need to proceed with your tip.

To begin, download the STOPit app on your phone or tablet, or access STOPitWeb from your laptop or desktop computer. Enter code MONTCOPA to ensure your tips will go to the right place.

You’re now ready to STOP crime in your community!
