Adult Day Services
Adult Day Services are community based group programs designed to meet the needs of functionally and/or cognitively impaired adults through an individual plan of care. These structured, comprehensive programs provide a variety of health, social and other related support services in a protective setting during any part of a day, but less than 24-hour care. In Pennsylvania, centers must be licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and follow state regulations.
How Adult Day Services Can Help You
Adult Day Services can assist not only the program participant, but working and non-working caregivers by providing peace of mind that loved ones are being cared for in a safe, enjoyable environment. Planned activities, health monitoring, meals, and appropriate exercise help to improve or maintain the participant's level of functioning, enabling them to remain at home in the community and prevent costly premature institutionalization.
Typical services include:
- Hot noontime meal and snacks
- Health care screenings by professional nurses
- Medication administration
- Assistance with personal care/incontinence assistance
- Structured activity and social programs
- Medical, social service and psychiatric referrals to community agencies and assessment services
- Individual plan of care
Optional services that may be available:
- Extended Saturday hours
- Bathing and personal grooming
- Beautician/barber services, i.e. wash & sets or haircuts
- Support group for caregivers at no charge
- Community outings
- Personal care / incontinence assistance
- Placement counseling
- Physical, speech and occupational therapies
- Podiatry
- Evening Meals
- Physician ordered lab tests
- Transportation and third party subsidies or discounts may be available
