Jeanne Sorg, Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds
Jeanne Sorg was elected Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds in November 2015 and assumed office in January 2016.
Sorg is originally from Minnesota and holds a dual Bachelor’s degree in English and Mathematics from Macalester College in St. Paul. She is the daughter of the first permanent female miner on the “Iron Range,” who was also the first female mayor of the small taconite mining town of Babbitt, located in Northern Minnesota.
Prior to being elected Recorder of Deeds, Sorg served as a senior advisor to an elected state official. She is currently Mayor of Ambler Borough. Sorg serves on the Ambler Main Street Board and is an active member of the Ambler Mennonite Church.
She and her husband, Rick Taylor, are the proud parents of Amelija, who has earned a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning from Temple University and works on mass transit issues, and Fred, a student at the University of Pittsburgh.
Sorg is the Past-President of the Pennsylvania Recorder of Deeds Association and Chair of the organization's delegates to the Pennsylvania State Association of Elected County Officials. She is also member of the Property Records Industry Association.
Sorg is proud of her accomplishments as Recorder, including: reducing the rejection rate of documents by over 50 percent; increasing the communication of the office staff with the stakeholders that use the office; expanding the Veterans’ Discount ID Program by adding merchants and increasing remote visits; and creating an atmosphere in the Recorders’ office that has encouraged camaraderie and improved public access to resources.
