Sunrise trail & Swamp Creek Greenway Feasibility study

Sunrise Mill

The purpose of the Sunrise Trail & Swamp Creek Greenway Feasibility Study is to determine the feasibility and recommended alignment of the Sunrise Trail and to identify recreational access opportunities along Swamp Creek. The Sunrise Trail is identified in the county’s current comprehensive plan, Montco2040: A Shared Vision, as part of the planned countywide trail system. The study area stretches from the Perkiomen Trail in Schwenksville, near the confluence of Swamp Creek and Perkiomen Creek, to New Hanover Square Road in New Hanover Township. The study also addresses the need for the continued conservation of land and for the development of environmental education and historic interpretation facilities within the Swamp Creek Conservation Landscape.

Public Involvement

The feasibility study included two public meetings, a study steering committee, small workshops, an online comment form, and numerous field trips and visits with property owners. Public meetings were held on January 12, 2017 at the Lower Frederick Township building and on March 30, 2017 at the Perkiomen Valley Middle School West.
