County Vehicle Registration Revenue

Improving Our Roads, Bridges, and Signals

On September 15, 2016, Montgomery County passed an ordinance relating to a provision of the Commonwealth’s 2013 transportation funding law (Act 89), which authorizes counties to add $5 to each annual PennDOT vehicle registration to fund critical county infrastructure starting January 1, 2017. The money can only be used for the maintenance and improvements of roads, bridges, and related items. The funding will be used to improve the county’s own inventory of 133 bridges and 75 miles of roadways, which citizens traverse on a regular basis. Montgomery County is the thirteenth county to pass an ordinance enacting this provision, which also has been passed by neighboring Bucks, Chester, and Philadelphia.
