Solid waste created by pets should be collected to prevent water pollution in local streams and bodies of water. The feces should not be flushed, as pet waste may carry pathogens that human wastewater treatment plants may not filter. Putting the waste into the trash is an option, but ideally it is organic matter that could be composted and recycled into a beneficial soil amendment.
