Summer Internship Program

Law School & Undergraduate Students

Law school and college students in good standing are eligible to apply for the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Summer Internship Program. This unpaid internship runs from the day after Memorial Day through the first week of August each year and exposes students to all aspects of the criminal justice system.

Legal interns are directly supervised by Assistant District Attorneys and receive weekly training and education on various issues in criminal law. Interns conduct legal research, assist with trial preparation matters, attend various court proceedings and participate in court hearings under the direct supervision of Assistant District Attorneys. Field trips generally include visits to state and county prison facilities, the coroner's office, and the opportunity to ride with police patrol units. The summer program culminates in a mock trial competition presided over by the Honorable Edward F. McCann Jr., First Assistant District Attorney.

College student interns are also given critical responsibilities that assist the District Attorney's Office in the criminal process.  College interns are provided the opportunity to observe court hearings, join field trips, ride with police patrol units, attend the weekly training and education sessions and participate as witnesses in the mock trial competition.
