Ask!
The best way to learn about your food and where it comes from is to ask questions. Most restaurants and retailers are happy to tell customers if they source local food products. You can also ask your school, workplace, or community group about making the commitment to support local farmers and other food producers. Farmers, too, enjoy talking to their customers about their specific farming practices.
Research!
Some simple investigating can tell you about your local farms, when and where farmers’ markets take place, which restaurants feature local foods, and about local food-focused community events or groups that may be available to you. Check out Direct from the Farm: A Guide to Buying Local in Montco.
Be Proactive!
Set goals for incorporating local foods into your diet and make a plan for how you’re going to reach those goals. For example, you can pledge to visit a farmers’ market twice a month or to use local food in at least two meals per week. Small changes can make a big impact!
