The District Attorney’s Office, with assistance from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s Local Law Enforcement Program, uses public outreach to help prevent unlawful gambling by public outreach. The Office educates charitable organizations and others about the fundraising restrictions imposed by Pennsylvania’s Small Games of Chance Act.
In general, gambling activity is illegal within the Commonwealth. The Small Games of Chance Act created an exception that allows qualified groups to hold certain games for fundraising purposes that would otherwise be considered unlawful. However, the Act also established significant licensing, operational and reporting regulations that can make compliance both confusing and difficult.
