To file a Protection from Abuse petition, you must first appear in Court Administration at the Norristown Courthouse Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. This allows you ample time to see the judge.
To qualify for a Protection from Abuse order, there must be either a family relationship or an intimate relationship with the person from whom you want to file for protection. The Prothonotary's Protection from Abuse Department, where you will file your petition, is located on the first floor of the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown.
Free child care is available through Court Care; reservations are recommended but not required. Court Care services are available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Court Care is located on the 6th floor of One Montgomery Plaza (across the street from the Montgomery County Courthouse).
