  • Phase 3 complete

2019


  • Phase 3 (Section MGN): Work continues to replace underground utilities and rebuild the north side (westbound lanes) of Lafayette Street.
  • The PA Turnpike continues preliminary engineering of the interchange.

2018


  • Phase 3 (Section MGN): Construction underway. The railroad viaduct is removed, the Schuylkill River Trail is relocated, a new culvert for the Saw Mill Run is installed, and Lafayette Street is widened.
  • The PA Turnpike continues preliminary engineering of the interchange.

2017


  • Phase 3 (Section MGN): The Montgomery County Commissioners awarded the construction contract to Allan Myers, LP in November 2017.
  • Phase 2 (Section MGL): Construction substantially complete.
  • The PA Turnpike Commission began design of the interchange in December 2017. 

2016


  • New Turnpike Interchange: The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s Fiscal Year 2017 Capital Plan is released, which includes over $66 million in funding for the construction of the Lafayette Street Interchange. For more information, check out the PA Turnpike Commission Capital Plan.
  • Phase 2 (Section MGL): Construction continues along Ridge Pike, Diamond Avenue, and Fairfield Avenue in Plymouth Township.  

2015


  • New Turnpike Interchange: On January 7, 2015 the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission voted to fund a full electronic toll interchange on the turnpike (Interstate 276) to connect directly to the Lafayette Street Extension in Plymouth Township.   • Phase 2 (Section MGL): Construction began in early 2015 to completely rebuild Ridge Pike and Diamond Avenue in Plymouth Township. This phase is expected to be complete in early 2017.
  • Phase 3 (Section MGN): Final design and right-of-way acquisition continue.

2014


  • Phase 1 (Section MGP): Construction continued and this portion of the project was substantially completed in December 2014. 
  • Phase 2 (Section MGL): The Montgomery County Commissioners awarded the construction contract to J.D. Eckman, Inc. in October 2014. Work began to relocate utilities shortly thereafter. 
  • Phase 3 (Section MGN): Final design and right-of-way acquisition continued for the third phase of the project in downtown Norristown.

2013


  • Phase 1 (Section MGP): Construction began as the contractor, Allan A. Myers, begins to extend Lafayette Street from Ford Street to Conshohocken Road. 
  • Phases 2 and 3 (MGL and MGN): Final design and right-of-way acquisition continued along existing Lafayette Street in Norristown and along Conshohocken Road and Ridge Pike. 

2012


  • The Montgomery County Transportation Authority (MCTA) acquired the last remaining properties under sections MGP and MGL. 
  • Design for section MGP is almost completed. Right-of-way acquisition for section MGN begins.
